Hey There!
Hello! My name is Alessia Franco, and I’m currently a second-year student in the Intermediate/Senior stream of the Master of Teaching program at the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE).
I’m deeply passionate about mental health and well-being, promoting literacy, and the power of sports to build confidence and community. My professional background includes working in youth-centered community programs, with a strong focus on leadership development, sports initiatives, and summer camps.
Outside the classroom, I love golfing, traveling, reading, and spending quality time with friends and family. Lately, I’ve been diving into baking and experimenting with new recipes—if you have any favorites, I’d love to hear them!

A Journey of Learning- Why I want to be a taecher
One of the biggest influences on my decision to become a teacher has been my work with Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays. Through this role, I have had the privilege of working with children and youth in a variety of settings. From baseball programs and summer camps to adaptive sport initiatives like Challenger Baseball.
These experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of what it means to support and empower young people. I have learned how to apply trauma-informed practices, build inclusive and welcoming spaces, and foster genuine connections with participants of all backgrounds and abilities. Watching kids thrive in environments where they feel safe, seen, and celebrated helped me realize the kind of impact I want to make in the classroom.
Teaching, for me, is a natural extension of this work. It’s about more than curriculum, it is about relationship-building, equity, and helping students recognize their own potential. I am excited to bring these values into my future teaching practice.
