Bachelor of Arts- University of Toronto

From 2018 to 2022, I completed my Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Criminology and Sociology. This academic experience deepened my understanding of social systems, human behaviour, and the structural factors that influence communities. It also strengthened my critical thinking, research, and communication skills.

 Masters of Sociology- Western University

I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Sociology, where my research focused on the intergenerational effects of incarceration on children’s educational outcomes. This work allowed me to merge my academic interests in sociology and criminology with my passion for children and youth studies. Through this research, I gained a deeper understanding of the systemic barriers many children face and developed a strong commitment to advocating for equity and support within educational spaces.

Masters of Teaching- OISE

This brings me to my current education journey, I'm pursuing a Master of Teaching (Intermediate/Senior) with teachables in Social Science and English. This program is equipping me with both the theoretical foundation and practical experience needed to engage and inspire students at the secondary level. I'm passionate about creating inclusive, thought-provoking learning environments where students can explore diverse perspectives and develop critical thinking skills.

My current research project focuses on the integration of self-regulation strategies within high school teaching practices. I was drawn to this topic after observing that while self-regulation is often emphasized in primary education, it tends to receive less attention at the secondary level. I am interested in exploring how intentionally teaching self-regulation skills can support the academic success and well-being of older students, and how educators can effectively incorporate these strategies into their daily practice.

Fun Fact!

Alessia's Favourite spot from University was Boxcar Donuts in London Ontario! Every week they release a new set of flavours (all are delicious).

Research Interests

My research interests lie at the intersection of education, equity, and student engagement, particularly within the Social Sciences and English. I am drawn to exploring how inclusive pedagogies, culturally responsive teaching, and critical thinking frameworks can empower diverse learners in intermediate and senior classrooms. I am also interested in how curriculum design and assessment practices can better reflect students' lived experiences while fostering a deeper understanding of social issues, identity, and language.
