Dixon Grove Junior Middle School

For my first teaching placement I was in a grade 7 classroom. I focused primarily on teaching English and Math. For the English units we focused on essay writting skills. Since it was a grade 7 class, everything was very beginner level focusing on the key components of the essay structure and how to craft an argument.

For Math, I focused primarily on teaching area, permeter, and volume. This unit accompanied various projects, quizes, and a final test to close off the unit.

Martingrove Collegiate Institute

For my second teaching placement, I was placed at Martingrove Collegiate Institute, where I worked with both Grade 10 and Grade 11 English classes. My primary focus was the Grade 11 Indigenous Literature course. This was an incredibly meaningful experience that allowed me to design lesson plans and assignments rooted in the Seven Grandfather Teachings. Through this framework, I encouraged students to engage deeply with the readings, reflect on Indigenous worldviews, and explore themes of identity, community, and reconciliation in a respectful and thought-provoking way.

Tutor:

Over the past four years, I have worked as a tutor supporting students from Grades 1 through 12 across a variety of subjects, with a particular focus on English and Social Sciences. This experience has allowed me to adapt my teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learning needs, build strong relationships with students, and foster both academic growth and confidence. Working one-on-one and in small groups has deepened my understanding of differentiated instruction and the importance of personalized support in helping students reach their full potential.

Classroom Volunteer and Emergency Supply Teacher:

In addition to my formal teaching placements, I have gained valuable experience as both a classroom volunteer and an emergency supply teacher in primary grade classrooms. These roles have allowed me to support young learners across a range of subjects and classroom routines, often stepping in on short notice to maintain a positive and structured learning environment. Through this experience, I’ve developed strong classroom management skills, flexibility, and the ability to engage younger students in meaningful, age-appropriate learning activities.

Fun Fact!

I am a big Taylor Swift fan! I even created Taylor Swift themed posters to put up in my classroom that incorporate the various school subjects!
